CAN YOU DO A 10% SHIFT?

Finding solutions to climate crises, reducing Greenhouse gas's , building food security, our local economy, and IMPROVING OUR HEALTH at the sometime.

WE CAN DO THIS!!

If we shift 10% of our Food Dollars Closer to Home we can help to change our food system. Nova Scotians spend about $2.6 billion on food each year, so the 10% Local Food Shift will keep at least $200 million in the Province and add at least:

  • 200 jobs throughout the food system,
  • $20 million to Farmer's and Fisher's incomes,
  • $3 million to Nova Scotia's tax revenue,
  • And more sustainable, healthy, delicious food for our tables
  • The 10% Local Food Shift program envisions a sustainable local food economy that contributes to the health and well-being of all Nova Scotians.

Nova Scotians spent about $2.6 billion dollars on food last year. Yet only about 12 % of our land-based food is grown in this Province. Shifting 10% of our food purchases will promote local economic development and foster sustainable communities, empower citizens to improve their health, cut down on our energy footprint, help people discover the needs and opportunities within their local food networks, reconnect with the people and the places that produce their food, and gain a renewed appreciation for food harvested close to home.
