The 10% Local Food Shift program envisions a sustainable local food economy that contributes to the health and well-being of all Nova Scotians.
Nova Scotians spent about $2.6 billion dollars on food last year. Yet only about 12 % of our land-based food is grown in this Province. Shifting 10% of our food purchases will promote local economic development and foster sustainable communities, empower citizens to improve their health, cut down on our energy footprint, help people discover the needs and opportunities within their local food networks, reconnect with the people and the places that produce their food, and gain a renewed appreciation for food harvested close to home.
